a few pix from March 21, 1953
My Bar Mitzvah was held in Adath Israel on March 21, 1953... in 8 days that will make it 55 years ago to the day. I'm posting a few photos from that album, I hope they evoke pleasant memories...
The first shot is on the bema and features Rabbi Samuel Newberger (sp?) giving me a blessing. In the next 2 shots are:Gary Ostrower, Arthur Melnick, Sheila Belafsky, Victor Ostrower, My cousin Myron Alpern from Perth Amboy, Richie Pargot, Thea Brodkin (nee Chodosh)and myself. The next has LeRoy Dubrow, Myra Weisenthal, Linda (is it Patnoi?) Adeline Lang and Alan Cohen (They later were married,) and my Cousin Mel Fink from Red Bank. In the last photo are (I think) the Fertigs, Mark Belafsky, Herb Pargot sitting between two gals (whose identity escapes me but I think his wife is to the left) and Dr Henry & Rose Belafsky.
Thank you Sharon...the reception was held at Adath Israel. If you recall the area that was used as gym, theatre, etc had heavy vinyl curtains that could be opened to expand the sanctuary fot the High Holidays, etc. When closed receptions as well as sporting events, dances etc could be held in that room. The caterer was Mrs Silverman... whose son,although crippled by polio at an early age grew up to become New Jersey's Attorney General (and the stuffed derma was great.)

I believe the persons at the table of adults at the Bar Mitzvah include Mr. Fertig (2nd from left)(Joanne's dad).
